BRINGING THE CONFLICT CONTEXT INTO THE PROGRAMME CYCLE

Three 2 day courses de-mything conflict sensitivity

“Good development has a conflict transformation component”

“Good conflict transformation has a development component”

Conflict Sensitivity has become more and more present in the design and delivery of development, humanitarian response, and peace building programmes.   Such programmes are implemented in rapidly changing situations, which highlight the need for a more integrated approach.  In the search for greater effectiveness in programming, humanitarian aid and development practitioners need to take into account the conflict transformation perspective.  Likewise, practitioners in conflict transformation need to take the perspectives of humanitarian aid and development programmes into account.  This integration of perspectives and practices lays the ground for sustainable change.

To bring the perspectives of development and conflict transformation together, Responding to Conflict is offering a practical way to bring the conflict context into the programme cycle.  Our courses are designed in three steps which are based on the programme/project management cycle. These courses will enable programme managers to bring a conflict sensitive approach into their programmes in an easy and practical way – starting with the planning process, through implementation to the evaluation phase.  In each phase, by drawing on the conflict transformation approach, the context will be linked directly with your programme, ensuring best conflict sensitive practice.

These three courses are designed as a step by step process, each one building on the previous one.  Each course can stand on its own, only in so far as the steps in the project/programme cycle can be separated from one another.

Step 1: From Context Analysis to Programme Planning: what about conflict?

21 – 22 January 2009

Step 2: From Analysis to Intervention: what does conflict do to your programme implementation?

16 – 17 February 2009

Step 3: From Intervention to Impact Assessment: what is your programme doing to the conflict context?

16 – 17 March 2009
