Nepal general strike - child rights monitoring report

CWIN logo 3 June 2010

In May, RTC was in Nepal to work with our partner Child Workers in Nepal (CWIN). During this time a general strike (or ‘bund') was called by the Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoists). The strike effectively shut down the capital city of Kathmandu, causing massive disruption for its population by restricting travel and business opening times. Throughout the ‘bund', which lasted for a whole week, CWIN were on the streets monitoring the situation for child rights violations.

CWIN published a report of their observations and have asked RTC to share it with our supporters. The report clearly demonstrates that Nepal continues to face a number of challenges regarding the protection of child rights. RTC would like to take this opportunity to offer our ongoing support for CWIN and other human rights organisation around the world who dedicate their efforts to ensuring our rights are projected.

You can read an English translation of CWIN's report below and for more information about our work with CWIN please visit our Nepal page.
