Consultancy Highlights

British Council/East Jerusalem

RTC was invited in December 2001 to carry out an assessment on behalf of the British Council and British Consulate in East Jerusalem. The aim was to identify opportunities for the Council to take a more pro-active role in conflict resolution and conflict prevention. RTC visited over 40 organisations in Ramallah, Bethlehem, Beit Sahour and Jerusalem and led two workshops: in Ramallah, West Bank, and Givat Haviva, Israel. Following this visit RTC has begun to develop its Israel/Palestine programme.

TARA/Senegal

TARA is a Senegalese organisation working on environmental issues such as desalinisation and reforestation in the Casamance region, which is severely affected by instability and violence. Through their village level work TARA had identified the need for a programme of conflict resolution to enable communities to reinforce their own methods of dealing with all types of conflict, from land issues to cultural conflicts. RTC spent two weeks in Senegal working intensively with local communities alongside TARA staff to develop work in this area.

GTZ/Yemen

In response to an invitation from the German agencies DED and GTZ,  RTC visited Yemen to lead a small team in conducting an 'Analysis of Peace and Conflict Potential', specifically in the Mareb and al-Dhale regions. The report provided an analysis of the different conflict-provoking factors in these regions and made recommendations for strengthening conflict transformation mechanisms in Yemen in the future.

World Vision/ Sri Lanka

A two week 'Conflict Assessment' training programme for World Vision staff from the Philippines, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Myanmar. The aim of the programme was to introduce participants to a range of conflict analysis tools and to develop guidelines for conflict assessment in situations of chronic political instability.
