Consultancy Highlights
Sierra Leonean Red Cross Society/ Sierra Leone
RTC has been involved with the SLRCS since 2001 through consultancy work and staff participation on our UK based courses. In 2005 we worked with the SLRCS to assess the achievements, process and impact of the Community Animation and Peace Support (CAPS) project.
Global Programme for the Prevention of Violent Conflict/ United States
RTC has been involved in the GPPC programme after facilitating a preparatory conference in 2002. In July 2005 the programme culminated in a three-day conference at the UN in New York. The conference title was From Reaction to Prevention: Civil Society Forging Partnerships to Prevent Violent Conflict and Build Peace. RTC was part of a facilitation team of three people responsible for the overall process of the event, facilitating the plenaries and the interactive panel sessions, training and supporting facilitators, reporters and organizers. In excess of 800 people attended from civil society, governments and the UN.
International Alert/ London
Facilitation of a staff workshop on strategy-building. Bringing together International Alert staff from Central and East Africa (DRC, Rwanda, Burundi), plus headquarters staff. The event brought together staff working on the Great Lakes region: they had never met together before, and were trying to amalgamate two autonomous programmes operating in the same region: a women's programme and a regional programme. The consultancy was carried out in French.

Briefing for Annika Jagander, the newly appointed Swedish Ambassador to Botswana with special responsibility for advising the Southern African Development Community (SADC). A workshop for undergraduate Disaster Management students looking at the relationship between disaster management and conflict.
The workshop broadly examined the interconnection between the following issues:
- An understanding of the main concepts in the field of conflict transformation and the dynamic nature of conflict and its complexities
- The relationship between relief, development and conflict in protracted political crises
- An understanding of the process of reconstruction
Government of Switzerland
A nine day Training for Trainers course designed to equip selected members of the Swiss Expert Pool (who serve as experts in foreign missions) with the skills to train their counterparts in the field. A secondarily aim was to establish a core of people from this group who can run future training for trainers courses.
