Conflict Sensitivity
RTC is working with a consortium of NGO's on the DFID CHF funded project "The practice of conflict sensitivity - concept to impact". The project has been designed to strengthen the practice of conflict sensitivity throughout and beyond a broad consortium of humanitarian, peacebuilding and multi-mandate development NGO's.
Project aims
The project aim is to ensure greater impact of development and humanitarian assistance through improved and more widespread mainstreaming of conflict sensitive approaches (CSA). The purpose is to improve policies and practices that support CSA across a broad network of NGOs, local partners and donor agencies.
It will harness collective experience from development, multi-mandate and peace building NGOs to document best practice in CSA, build capacity at institutional level and field levels, share learning across broad networks and influence policies and practices of donors and other NGOs.
Consortium partners
CARE International - UK (lead organisation) ActionAid; CAFOD; International Alert; Plan International UK; Responding to Conflict; Saferworld; Save the Children UK; Skillshare International and Worldvision
The consortium began in the UK in 2008, and has since expanded to become active in the three other focus countries:
- Kenya - Kenya consortium let by ActionAid
- Sri Lanka - Sri Lanka Consortium led by CARE
- Sierra Leone - Sierra Leone Consortium led by World Vision
- UK - UK Consortium led by CARE
RTC works with CSA consortium partners in each of these countries and has facilitated a multi-day workshop on conflict sensitivity in all of them. These workshops aim to develop a toolkit- or step by step guide- for CSA members to use when working in situations affected by conflict, in order for them to implement conflict sensitive programmes and increase the impact of their assistance. Our most recent workshops were held in October 2011 in Sierra Leone and in Sri Lanka, and in 2010 RTC held a three-day workshop in Kenya.
