How we work

Violent conflict does not happen in isolation. It is a complex situation constantly changing and influenced by a wide range of people and issues. It not only causes instability, loss of life, and contributes to state fragility but also feeds increasing polarisation, militancy and xenophobia.

Flowers for peaceRTC recognises that civil society and local community organisations in areas affected by conflict are best positioned to address conflict issues and bring about change. However many have limited capacity to resolve conflict and integrate conflict issues into their programmes.

We work with individuals and organisations to strengthen their skills, knowledge and understanding in the field of Conflict Transformation so that they are able to develop creative ways of working with conflict, are more effective in preventing violence and resolving conflict peacefully and have the capacity to act on opportunities to transform the structures and systems that maintain conflict when they arise.

Our working principles

By invitation - We believe that external organisations can play a vital role in peacebuilding, but that this must be by invitation from those who live in and are affected by violent conflict

In partnership - RTC always seeks to establish partnerships with local organisations to ensure long-term sustainability of the work, local knowledge, and that the work is relevant for those involved

Understanding root causes - Understanding the root causes of conflict through thorough analysis is vital. It is only through such analysis that key players are identified and appropirate responses to a specific conflict can be made

Long-term - We provide long-term accompaniment for partners in their own situations to ensure that they have the support they need to make their own interventions and ensure sustainable change

Learning - We see learning from our practice and from our partners as vital to the success of our work and to improve our future interventions

There is no way to peace. Peace is the way.
