Training of Trainers in Conflict Transformation
5 DAY TRAINING PROGRAMME: Dates 16th - 20th August, NAIROBI, KENYA
Target number of participants: 15-20
Proposed Objectives:
During these five days women who have gone through peace building trainings or women in peace leadership trainings before will have an opportunity to further develop their training and facilitation skills so that they are able to extend what they have learned to other women, women's groups and local organizations.
The training will use these five days to develop the confidence and skills of the said women to move forward in their quest for building peace, and drawing women into this process.
The participants will prepare and facilitate sessions, and give and receive feedback from one another.
Key areas that will be covered will be:
- Creating a safe space for views to be aired;
- Learning by doing: Giving and receiving feedback;
- Communication skills that enhance inclusion and respect;
- Exploring how learning for change takes place;
- The role of the facilitator/trainer.
Proposed Broad outline:
Day 1
- Building the learning group;
- Creating a safe space for learning;
- Exploring learning styles and skills - self assessment;
- Components of a learning programme.
Day 2
- Learning by doing: giving and receiving feedback;
- Communication skills;
- Preparation of sessions for presentation to the group.
Day 3 and Day 4
- Sessions facilitated by each of the participants with feedback;
- (This may start the previous afternoon, and could continue for the first.)
Part of Day 5
- Bringing the learning together;
- Being a reflective practitioner;
- Next steps;
- Review and feedback.
Requirements:
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Should be female;
- Be conversant with the English language;
- Have undergone trainings pertaining to PBCT or women in peace leadership;
- Be geared towards the path of designing and facilitating trainings;
- Have the ability and the willingness to replicate the skills attained in their organizations and working groups.
Priority will however be given to:
- Those from organizations that conduct capacity building trainings at various levels;
- Those who have in the past been involved in designing and facilitating PBCT trainings;
- Individuals affiliated to organizations;
- Women from conflict zones in Africa.
Expected output:
- Improved skills on designing training programs for various groups;
- Improved skills and confidence in facilitating/training groups/organizations.
